- Oceanvolt SD electric saildrive system wins SAIL Magazines 2013 Pittman Innovation Award1/5Jan 29 2013
The Oceanvolt SD propulsion system has been chosen by SAIL Magazine as the winner of the 2013 Pittman Innovation Award in the systems category. The award is given every year to recognize the most innovative and interesting new products on the market.
According to the judges "Electric motors have been married to saildrive legs before, but Finland’s Oceanvolt incorporates a number of features in its well-designed SD 8.6 and SD 15 units that clearly bring them to the head of the pack. With closed-circulation liquid cooling and a compact waterproof permanent-magnet motor, the drives take up very little space inside a hull. The combination shift/throttle lever is also compact and has a series of LEDs indicating motor status. Best of all, a button on the display unit engages a most interesting SD function—regeneration with a folding prop, whereby the propeller is brought up to speed until its blades are deployed, and the power is then extracted as the blades are carefully controlled so that they don’t fold back down again."

- Oceanvolt SD8.6 receives a Special Mention in the 22nd DAME - Design Award METS Competition2/5Nov 29 2012
Oceanvolt SD8.6 electric propulsion system received a Special Mention in the METS 2012 trade show held in November in Amsterdam. SD8.6 was competing in the same "Machine, propulsion, mechanical and electrical systems and fittings" -category as the overall Dame winner Torqeedo Deep Blue electric outboard.
The Jury felt that the Oceanvolt SD8.6 was notable for being both compact and yet cleverly engineered.

- Oceanvolt SD8.6 nominated for the DAME Award 20123/5Nov 2 2012We are very happy and pleased to announce that our Oceanvolt SD 8.6 propulsion system has been nominated for the DAME Award 2012. “The DAME (Design Award METS) is the single most important international design competition for new marine equipment and accessories. It is the design accolade for entrepreneurs and innovators, and nominations set the pace for the next generation of product development.”
The announcement of the winner of the DAME Award 2012 will take place during the METS Breakfast Briefing in the Forum of Amsterdam RAI (Entrance E) on Tuesday 13 November 2011 from 8.00 a.m. – 10.00 a.m. For more information about DAME If you happen to be in Amsterdam between 13.-15.11.2012, make a visit to the METS 2012 and come say hi to us and checkout our DAME Award nominated Oceanvolt SD8.6 in action!
Our newly designed stand will be located in hall 9, stand number 09.429. Looking forward to seeing you there!
- Oceanvolt Ltd – Winner of the Clean Design Award 20124/5Jul 3 2012Oceanvolt has won the Clean Design Award 2012 at Lahti Cleantech Venture day. Oceanvolts CEO Janne Kjellman received the trophy at Lahti Cleantech Venture day held in April from the Chairman of the prize committee, director of UPM ProFin, Katri Parovuori. According to the judges Oceanvolt had best incorporated all of the three aspects of CleanDesign into their products. Oceanvolts electric propulsion systems “are possible to manufacture on an industrial scale, have a user-centered design, are easy to use and look sleek.”

- Oceanvolt SD8.6 passes the EMC tests5/5Mar 20 2012
Oceanvolt SD8.6 electric propulsion system passes the final EMC tests which will ensure the electromagnetic compatibility with other electrical devices on board.
Oceanvolt products are CE marked so the boat yards can install them in boats sold to European customers.

- SD8.6 installed on a BLU301/2Dec 10 2012
The sailing yacht blu30 has been created on the “drawing board” of the design office NAVAL DESIGN in Lucerne in collaboration with america’s cup sailor Christian Scherrer. The design brief described a modern daysailor optimized for short crew and single handed lake sailing. The blu30 has been constructed at the yard of Dominik Schenk in Ermatingen (Switzerland).Technology:
Boat length: 9 m
Width: 2.38 m
LWL: 8.25 m
Weight: 1 500 kg
Propulsion system: Oceanvolt SD8.6
Propulsion system weight: 47kg
Batteries: 2 x Power26/104 Lithium batteries
Battery capacity: 5.4 kWh
Battery weight: 48.4 kg - SD8.6 installed on a Maestro 40 sail yacht2/2Nov 30 2012
The Maestro 40 is a semi-light displacement cruising boat built on the Finnish west coast. The boat owner was seeking a propulsion system to drive the boat in and out of harbors and to be able to motor in windless situations.
Oceanvolt SD8.6 saildrive system was a perfect match for the boat. The SD8.6 has enough power to allow maneuvering in tight spaces. The regeneration function also allows the skipper to charge the batteries while sailing. A useful feature on longer voyages when the boat's appliances can all be powered from the propulsion battery.
Technology used:
Boat waterline length: 10.8 m
Boat beam: 3.7 m
Boat weight: 6500 kg
Propulsion system: Oceanvolt SD8.6
Propulsion system nominal power: 8.6kW
Propulsion system voltage: 52 volt
Propulsion system weight: 47 kg
Batteries: 4 x Power26/104 Lithium
Battery capacity: 10.8 kWh
Battery weight: 96.8 kg

Each system manufactured in Finland is tested before shipment. “Less from nature, more for people.” Discover technology that respects both people and nature, and experience the joy of using this technology at sea.

Oceanvolt has been awarded the Clean Design Award 2012. Clean Design refers to user-centered industrial design and production where technology and materials are used in an exceptionally sustainable way.
When the throttle lever is closed, the motor is switched off. When the lever is tilted to stand by mode, the system is turned on and ready to use. To operate the motor, turn the lever to either “ahead” or “astern” to move in the desired direction.
Technical Data:
Marine grade aluminum
Award winning design
Tilt lever for Drive-mode
LED’s indicating motor status
CAN-bus connection

In addition, the display has a button for the regeneration function, by which the folding propeller of the saildrive produces electricity while sailing. The display utilizes safe CAN bus technology. Thus, it is possible to connect all control functions to the same information network via one cable. This makes for easy installation and excellent reliability.
Technical Data:
3.2" color display
Button to activate MIPT-regeneration
Battery status, drive direction, hours to go and motor rpm
Power level in percent
Reliable Plug&Play CAN-bus technology

- Technical Director Richard Lax
The material used to create the saildrive of the regenerative system is marine grade cast aluminum coated with durable epoxy. A large surface sacrificial anode completes the equation, which guarantees maximum protection against corrosion.
